John Philip

John Phillip
John Phillip

Unfortunately for John Philip, so many opportunities in life were taken from him the day he was born. Due to hospital error, he suffered from a severe lack of oxygen leaving him brain damaged.

I remember being pregnant for the first time experiencing the joy and fear all at once. Would we be good parents? Would he grow up to be an independent and successful young man? The only thing I knew for sure at that time was how fortunate we were to be living in a society where we have choices and many opportunities. We knew we would give our child every opportunity life had to offer.

Unfortunately for John Philip, so many of those opportunities in life were taken from him the day he was born. Due to hospital error, he suffered from a severe lack of oxygen leaving him brain damaged. As a result, our life and dreams took a dramatic turn, one I never imagined. Today, John Philip is 5 years old. He is an amazing boy. He has a smile that will light up a room and a laugh that is contagious. He loves horseback riding, swimming, playing with his little sister, riding his bike and telling jokes on his talking device. He cannot sit, talk, walk or eat independently. He suffers from seizures and his daily activities include more therapy than play. A very different life than we imagined for our child. Although he is entirely dependent upon us for his every need, we will not accept this as his future. We know that stem cell research can help the millions of children like John Philip have a better quality of life. Supporting this research for him and the millions of children like him who have no voice but yet so badly need to be heard is our only option. Please help to give these children a second chance at life by supporting stem cell research.

Help us inform Congress about the need for stem cell research by adding your own "Reality Snapshot" to our site.
